Susan Meiselas | Intimate strangers
15 December 2019 - 16 February 2020
A pillar of contemporary photojournalism, member of Magnum Photos agency and author of famous reportages on the war in Nicaragua and Latin America, the American photographer (Baltimore, 1948) is on display in Palermo with the series Carnival Strippers (1972-1975) on the life of strippers at village fairs and Pandora’s Box (1995) shot in an S&M club in New York.
Two powerful works that investigate the most intimate aspects of the reality and of the protagonists, interviewed and directly involved in the project. For Meiselas, photography is synonymous with civil commitment and a tool for the defense of human rights, especially women, for which this year she won the Women In Motion Award.
