Surrealist Lee Miller
14 March 2019 - 9 June 2019
Bologna host a retrospective (101 images) dedicated to one of the most important photographers of the Twentieth century. A photojournalist accredited with the US Army during the World War II as well as muse and collaborator of Man Ray. Lee Miller was launched as a model by Condé Nast when she posed for the cover of “Vogue” in 1927. Miller started traveling to take part in photo shoots worldwide, until, two years later, she decided to move over the other side of the camera and become a photographer herself.
She devoted herself to fashion and portrait, but above all she was struck by surrealists and Man Ray and together with him she developed the solarization technique. Miller was the first female photographer to document the liberation of Dachau’s and Buchenwald’s concentration camps. She also followed the Allies during the discovery of Hitler’s apartment in which she took her most famous photograph, a self-portrait in the Führer’s bathtub.
