Elliott Erwitt. Family

In Riccione, in the renovated spaces of Villa Mussolini, a substantial retrospective on the artistic production of Elliot Erwitt is hosted. Central theme of the exhibition: the family, understood as a universal concept that links geographical, cultural and historical periods together.

Erwitt’s iconography is delicately placed halfway between the aesthetics of vernacular photography and reportage; the smiles, the constructed and glossy atmosphere, the sense (perhaps not always true) of unity and affection that is perceived by the classic bourgeois white family … these are all elements that enrich that family album aesthetic that we have all learned to know since photography became accessible to everyone.

The exhibition also pays homage to Erwitt’s modus operandi, which involves an artistic and photographic process without the support of the written text, so that the photograph can speak for itself and that the viewer can recognize himself (or not) within the scene portrayed. .
