Capa in Color

Gallerie Estensi in Modena are hosting, until February 13th, an interesting retrospective of Robert Capa’s color production.

One of the most famous war photographers in history experimented with the color of Kodak films even before they became popular globally. Capa, albeit in part, helped to anticipate the great masters of color such as William Eggleston and Stephen Shore, going on to give not only commercial but also artistic credibility to color photography.

Whether it was war scenes or portraits of artists or personalities of high fashion, the images exhibited in Capa in Color do nothing but confirm the reporter’s ability to skillfully combine the style of documentary photography (at the time almost exclusively monochrome) with a new type of artistic and creative approach given by the color of the films.
