Arles 2020 | Despite the cancellation of the 51st edition, photography goes on
29 June 2020 - 6 September 2020
The cancellation of one of the most awaited events of the photography scene, although it was foreseeable left everyone with a bad taste in such a difficult period, full of restrictions and impediments, in which the artistic and cultural sector certainly does not have an easy life.
However, the disappointment should be mitigated by some good news: thanks to the general mobilization of the different partners of the Festival, some projects, prizes and awards will go on as scheduled. You can easily find everything on the official website.
In the meantime, about fifty galleries, belonging to the Arles Contemporain association, have organized themselves so that, even in the absence of the beloved Rencontres, Arles keeps being the beating heart of international photography also for this Summer. Even more: a cultural center which, alongside photographic proposals, will offer concerts, lectures, outdoor cinema.
Meanwhile, the Festival looks forward to the future and awaits for its brand new director, Cristoph Wiesner, to take up his position in September. Co-director of Paris Photo together with Florence Bourgeois for more than 5 years, Wiesner will take the place of Sam Stourdzé, appointed to the direction of the Accademia di Francia – Villa Medici in Rome.
