Sally Mann | Mille et un passages

Great retrospective dedicated to the American photographer, tireless and original explorer of themes related to memory, family, desire and nature. The experimental images of Mann, born in Virginia in 1951, are united by that indefinable atmosphere typical of the southern United States and testify a strong bond with the territory.

The exhibition itinerary, is  arranged in five parts and features many unpublished works, opens with photographs from the 1980s,  of the three children in the country house: images far removed from the traditional stereotypes of childhood. Followed by buildings and abandoned fields, crossed by the sharp light of the South. And still images and portraits of the community; photographs taken of the sick husband; self-portraits made after a riding accident. Mann uses the most diverse styles, from portrait to landscape to still life, experimenting in his work also ancient techniques and materials, such as collodion.
