Federico Patellani | Da Monza verso il mondo
25 May 2019 - 28 July 2019
With over one hundred black and white photographs, including well-known and unpublished images, the exhibition reconstructs the career of the photographer (1971-1977) between the end of the Second World War and the mid-1960s. Collaborator of Il Tempo, pioneer of Italian photojournalism, witness of a country that was changing, Patellani told its metamorphosis without rhetoric. In 1943 invented the definition “giornalista nuova formula”, that is a journalist who, in addition to writing texts, is able to create “living, current, vibrant” images.
The exhibition created in collaboration with the Museum of Contemporary Photography, where the precious and immense Patellani archive is kept, is curated by Giovanna Calvenzi and Kitti Bolognesi. The world of Patellani includes photographs dedicated to the post-war period, reports on the conditions of Southern Italy, fashion, travel, cinema and portraits (Benedetto Croce, Thomas Mann, Eugenio Montale, Giuseppe Ungaretti, Totò, Anna Magnani, Silvana Mangano).
A section of images is dedicated to his hometown.
