All Shook Up | Thomas Kellner’s America
16 March 2019 - 3 November 2019
Monuments, architecture and landscapes symbols of the United States captured by Kellner’s lens, which shows them in a different, fragmentary and unstable light. His “visual analytical synthesis” leads him to create a series of detailed shots of the subject, which then recomposes in contact sheets, to form a new image from the totally original and unusual perspective.
Almost to imitate a mental reconstruction, the one that the spectator could have in his head while his eyes wander over the image, concentrating on individual details.
‘I’m in love, I’m all shook up’. What better way to describe German photo artist Thomas Kellner’s relationship with America than through the words of Rock and Roll legend Elvis Presley.
For this exhibition Kellner has selected some of his favourite pieces that capture well-known landmarks in America. We’re sure you’ll recognise many of the monuments from Chicago, New York, San Francisco, and Las Vegas. The centrepiece of the exhibition is the Grand Canyon, which will be on display to an international audience for the first time. The artwork is over 4 metres long and is Kellner’s largest artwork to date.
