Ren Hang | Love

Solo exhibition of one of the most influent Chinese artist of his generation, tragically passed away at the age 29 years. Often censored by the repressive political context, has investigated themes such as sexuality and identity, expressing a desire for creative freedom, in an almost carefree way. There are 150 images on display in Paris, from European and Chinese archives. Many portraits, of friends, of the mother, of young people described in a provocative but harmonious way. Nudes are accompanied by landscapes and night-time views, sometimes with an obvious organic link between eroticism and nature.

His photographs convey sensuality and serenity together, through formal purity, the dreamlike atmosphere, the chromaticism characterized by acid tones and the presence of elements of bright red color. Several times arrested, his art had no political motivation or challenge to the system: simply his way of representing reality went against the Chinese laws, whose severe censorship considers the naked pornography and pornography illegal.
