Coşkun Aşar ǀ Blackout. Dark side of Istanbul

A new exhibition at Palazzetto Baviera, Senigallia (Ancona). A visual novel about the dark side of Istanbul city, realized by the Turkish photographer Coşkun Aşar, relevant protagonist in the new international street photography scene. The author documents the suburbs and their difficult living conditions, the ancient places that are now changing, with a careful reflection on social changes.

The reportage takes place from the personal experience and life in Beyoglu, a historic district of Istanbul where Aşar grew up. The 70 photographs in black and white show the suburbs of the city and their street life as well as marginalisation, poverty, prostitution, gangs and the transgender community. Degradation and humanity, diversity and tradition, lights and shadows come out of his intense photographs.
