Le donne e la fotografia

Fondazione Luciana Matalon in Milan presents a comprehensive retrospective of the most influential female artists in the history of photography. The exhibition, open from October 8th to November 28th, offers a chronological and thematic journey through the emancipation of women through the practice of photography.

90 original photographs belonging to as many women artists, including names such as Diane Arbus, Margaret Bourke-White, Lisetta Carmi, Marina Abramovic, Tina Modotti, Nan Goldin, Cindy Sherman and many others.

The history of art becomes a witness to the constant struggle for emancipation by women within an exhibition that branches out into two thematic nuclei: that of the empathy of the female gaze (dissected within the contexts at the time purely male, such as photojournalism and reportage), and that of the constant search for identity, hindered by a patriarchal society that has always stifled the creative lymph of female nature.
