Walter Niedermayr. Transformations
29 July 2021 - 17 October 2021
Until October 17th, 2021, the main rooms of CAMERA in Turin will host “Walter Niedermayr. Transformations”, a solo exhibition by Walter Niedermayr (Bolzano, 1952), whose large-format works accompany the viewer on a journey to discover the relationships that man establishes with the natural and artificial spaces he inhabits.
The exhibition, curated by Walter Guadagnini with the collaboration of Claudio Composti and Giangavino Pazzola, presents the last twenty years of the South Tyrolean photographer’s visual research. While respecting the Italian tradition of the study of the anti-romantic landscape, Niedermayr reinterprets physical space and the relationship that man establishes with it, with an analytical, almost scientific gaze, in an attempt to dissect the social, ecological and environmental superstructures of Italian society.
Some of the main works belonging to the series Alpine Landschaften (Alpine Landscapes), Portraits (Portraits), and Raumfolgen (Spaces With/Sequences) are exhibited; their common denominator is the landscape itself, which, among the human miniatures scattered among the houses and the mountains, is always the main topic of Niedermayr’s visual research.
